Learn How to Text 911
Get the information you need to protect yourself and those you love.
Call when you can, text when you can’t. Calling 911 is always the best option. But if you are in circumstances where that is not available, you can text. A few key tips to remember:
- Include your exact location and nature of your emergency
- Use clear, simple language — no abbreviations or slang
- Do not include photos or videos in your text
- Put phone on silent if incoming messages will sound and compromise your safety
- Do not text and drive
