In Your Corner for Hope
On March 2nd, Hope House hosted In Your Corner for Hope in collaboration with KC Golden Gloves and Christy Martin. This amateur boxing fundraiser was held to raise funds and awareness to individuals who have faced domestic violence, bullying, abuse, and other difficult situations.
The idea for this event came about shortly after Christy Martin, former professional female boxer and domestic violence survivor, attended Hope House’s annual believe-illuminating hope gala as the keynote speaker in August of 2021. Christy proposed the idea of an amateur boxing fundraiser with hopes of bringing the two communities together and empowering survivors.
Christy joined us as ring announcer for the evening, and captivated the audience as she shared her story of bravery and survival. Prior to the show, Tina, a Hope House representative, and Christy spoke with the boxers about the impact they would be making on survivors' lives through their participation in In Your Corner for Hope.
Empower, the evening’s Meet and Greet sponsor, joined us for the second year in a row, excited for the night ahead and an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of survivors.
In the ring, boxers from all ages and all walks of life demonstrated their skills with a common goal in mind: to stand up against domestic violence.
As the last bout came to a close, the theater erupted with applause. Beyond the cheers and celebrations, the true impact of the event was felt by all. Proceeds from the event would go towards empowering and uplifting individuals in our community, offering them a chance to heal and reclaim their independence.
Through the power of sport and community, In Your Corner for Hope not only raised critical funds, but also raised awareness for those affected by abuse. Thank you to all who came and supported this unforgettable event!
Together we can build a brighter future.
Domestic violence can happen to anyone, no matter their gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, or sexuality. Hope House advocates for survivors, no matter where they are in their journey. Join us in creating a brighter tomorrow for survivors.
